I am trying to get a blog going regarding our adventures in Switzerland. I think it will be easier than sending numerous emails, dealing with limited photos and people who want to know what is going on can visit versus my posts on facebook or whatever.
My first photo will be the start of our trip...the airplane.
The kids are enjoying their first trans-atlantic flight! Kai looks a little confused..."where are we going?"
Sage took this photo
(You will notice there aren't any photos of Shawn or me...we were too thrashed to face the camera!)
After a very long, emotional week of packing, right up to the last midnight hour we headed for Irvine where we spent our last night in the USA. Wednesday, August 23rd, Shawn's parents, Glenn and Bonnie, loaded their minivan with the kids while Shawn and I took a totally full Suburban to the airport. We left out of John Wayne at 11am after the nicest American Airlines ticket lady looked the other way as she put all 13 "over-weight" bags onto the baggage line. We were only 2 to 3 lbs over per bag, but still...she winked and wished us a safe passage! We had GREAT seats to London where Shawn and the girls had a ton of leg-room right behind business class. Our flight to Geneva was short from London (like LA to Las Vegas) and we landed safely at 12ish the next day.
We were greeted by a very tall LUC Volleyball Director who spoke perfect English. He could even joke in English and this he did a lot of. All 13 pieces of luggage made it with us except for Kai's booster-seat (and all 13 pieces of luggage fit in the team's 14 seater van. We were nervous they were going to have to make two trips!). His booster was on the next flight in, so we had to wait about 15 minutes until it arrived. In the meantime, Pierre-Andre, the director, got the kids some water, coke and two HUGE Toblerone chocolate bars. He told Soren that the store manager told him he could not buy water without buying chocolate...that it was a new Swiss rule. She loved that!
After getting Kai's booster seat, we headed from Geneva to Lausanne. Don't ask me how this leg of our trip was because I completely fell asleep and woke up just as we arrived in Lausanne. In fact, the kids also all crashed! Shawn said at one point, Pierre-Andre made a little joke because he was trying to be such a good tour guide and no-one was listening. I do remember seeing the spectacular alps plunging into Lake Geneva to our right!

(They kiss THREE times here when greeting). Soren just giggles as she is kissed!!!
Love,
Shawn, Davis, Jordan, Sage, Soren and Kai
